' ABOUT POLICY DEVELOPMENT Overview Background Policy Development began as a group of Princeton University graduate students interested in distributing the benefits of an elite education to the real world. These young professionals deferred careers in large public and private sector institutions, setting out to personally bring their new networks of expertise to non-profits delivering social services directly to those in need. The Concept Policy Development began building bridges between direct services providers and the policy community, helping service organizations reach up to the policy community, and helping the policy community reach down. When these two sectors interact, the benefits are mutual: the first-hand experience of direct service organizations becomes input for high-level policy debate, while greater policy awareness becomes an input for better direct service program planning.
