Beginning with the client's current situation, planners assess assets, liabilities, cash flow, taxes, insurance in force, and estate planning documentation. Specific goals and objectives are subsequently defined. This process reveals immediate steps needed to meet short-term financial objectives, and defines obstacles to be overcome for attainment of long-term goals such as retirement and estate planning.
